Edwina Kong

Edwina Kong

I graduated from Imperial College with a degree in Mathematics. I decided on an actuarial career as it combines application of analytical and mathematical skills to financial problems with continual professional development.

Working as a summer intern for a life insurance company reaffirmed my decision to become an actuary. Unlike life insurance where the number of factors taken into account when quantifying a risk is relatively small, I found general insurance/reinsurance to be more varied and challenging as there are more uncertainties and the industry has to respond quickly to market changes.

Aspen appealed to me as a continually expanding and challenging organisation that offers an exciting opportunity to grow with the company. The generous study support enables me to effectively balance my work commitments with studying for the actuarial exams.

I have been working in reserving in my first two years at Aspen. This allows me to gain a deep understanding on many aspects of the business, as I often have to work with underwriters, claims, processing and other departments. There are opportunities to rotate to other teams within the actuarial department and I am looking forward to working in the pricing team in the near future.
